Little Kid Reaction: I picked this book because I like cars and racing. It was a good book, and I really liked the car as the narrator.
Big Kid Reaction: This is a refreshing, fun story. T takes us on a fabulous journey, offering historical insights that are sure to generate questions and encourage reading. So many times when an object becomes "human" the value is diminished because the reader is asked to take huge leaps of faith. Not with this book. The author does a masterful job letting "T" tell the story without burdening the reader with fact OR asking us to accept unrealistic knowledge.
Pros: Kids will get a kick out of this piece of history! Even though this is "history," the events will have meaning for them as they think about their own life.
Cons: None.
Borrow or Buy: Borrow, at least. This is a fast-paced, easy-to-read book that will keep kids interested in the journey. For adult readers, it may well be a road down memory lane. Menchville student: Buy. You would want to give this book to anyone who likes classic cars.
Educational Themes: Head to a car museum or antique car show near you. You can bring this book to life by letting kids see the car. The author offers wonderful vignettes about the decades to encourage further study/reading about other times, as well.
