Author: Bookbox

Reserve at the Library

Publisher: www.bookbox.com, ©2005

Type of Reading: family reading, anytime reading, read aloud book

Recommended Age: read together: 3 to 7; read yourself: 6 to 9

Interest Level: 3 to 9

Age of Child: Started reading with 5-year-old child.

Little Kid Reaction: It took us a while to share this one. We limit computer time, so we needed several sessions to get through it. S/He loved the stories, though.

Big Kid Reaction: The stories are wonderful. You'll want them for your portable DVD (or iPod). We like the fact that this is more like reading an animated book than watching a movie. They remind us of watching the stories on Between the Lions.

Pros: The stories are short, with stop-lens images, making the illustrations closer to reading a book than watching a movie. The text is highlighted (word-by-word) on every page. The fact that you can pick from several foreign languages makes it very versatile and suitable for all age groups.

Cons: None, really. Except that you are tied to the computer to enjoy it.

Borrow or Buy: Buy! You and your children will get so much pleasure -- and use -- from this collection of stories.

If You Liked This Book, Try: THE RAINBOW WEB (Webs to Whales Nature Tales) , FRENCH SPIRITUAL SONGS (Teach Me™ Tapes)

Educational Themes: There are lessons of friendship, exploration, feelings, and discovery. The presentation style offers children an opportunity to learn to read; and the fact that you can choose your language makes it easy to introduce a second (or third) language.

Notes: This is a Moms Choice Award Nominee for 2006.

Literary Categories: Fiction - cultures and tradition, fables, foreign language, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, eBook, Between the Lions
