Little Kid Reaction: This is a good book for anyone. This was cool. I liked the pictures. I liked how the stories were different. I picked this book because I could read it to my cousin, and I would read it again.
Big Kid Reaction: It is hard to decide which is more captivating: the folktales or the illustrations. These stories beg to be read aloud. The author has mastered this genre, not only bringing to life traditional stories, but also writing one of her own.
Pros: This folktale collection captures classic stories of friendship, wisdom, and courage. The pictures add a lot to the book.
Cons: None.
Borrow or Buy: Borrow, at least. This is classic bedtime reading and would be wonderful reading in a classroom setting.
Educational Themes: There is plenty to grow on with this book. The stories may encourage further study folklore traditions of the various cultures (Chinese, Guatemalan, Japanese, Indian, Nigerian, Moroccan, Jewish), or more history of the trees themselves (Cypress, Kapok, Chestnut, Cherry Blossom, Palm Tree, Fig Tree, Pomegranate).
