Author: Stacy A. Nyikos

Illustrator: Kary Lee

Reserve at the Library

Publisher: Stonehorse Publishing, ©2007

Material: hard cover

Summary: Dizzy is very busy. He loves to show his bay friends all his tricks and race with them ... long after they're tuckered out. One day, Dizzy learned that while he had been out racing the deep blue, his friends had stayed behind and were feasting on fish! Can Dizzy slow down enough to share in this daily bounty. This is a picture book that blends facts about dolphins with a story kids will love.

Little Kid Reaction: "Boy, he's fast." Our child liked the story ... and wanted to read it again so s/he could find out how Dizzy made that tunnel of water on the front cover.

Big Kid Reaction: This is another star(fish) for Stacy Nyikos. We enjoy reading the story and learning more about marine life. She has a great talent for blending facts and a life-lesson tale (patience) into a rhyming story that never misses a beat.

Pros: The book makes it easy to learn factual information about marine species (in this case Pacific white-sided dolphins) in a fun, refreshing way.

Cons: None.

Borrow or Buy: Borrow, at least. If you have a marine-loving child, this and all of the books in Stacy's series should be part of your library.

If You Liked This Book, Try: SQUIRT , ADVENTURES OF RILEY: DOLPHINS IN DANGER (Riley's World Series®) , AMAZING DOLPHINS (I Can Read! Series)

Educational Themes: The story lends itself to talking about patience and delayed gratification at a level young readers/pre-readers can absorb. The resource information in the back offers you the added benefit of further study about Pacific white-sided dolphins.
