Title: MARVEL HEROES: MIX AND MATCH STORYBOOK

Author: Randy Meredith

Illustrator: Carlo Barberi

Reserve at the Library

Publisher: Penny Candy Press, an Imprint of Brighter Minds Media, Inc., ©2006

Material: board book

Summary: Create your own Superhero adventure. Pick your villain, pick his target, and pick the Marvel hero who will save the day. This is an interactive comic book where you get to create the stories.

Type of Reading: family reading, anytime reading, read aloud book, middle grade reader, interactive reading

Recommended Age: read together: 3 to 6; read yourself: 5 to 7

Interest Level: 3 to 6

Age of Child: Started reading with 5-year-old child.

Little Kid Reaction: Our child loved this book. Even though s/he can't read yet, it didn't take long to learn the main players. Then s/he created stories all their own.

Big Kid Reaction: This was a fun read. Once our preschooler learned to identify the characters, s/he was content to "write" her own stories, without us sitting nearby.

Pros: You can expand beyond rote comic stories to create your own one-line adventures. The moving parts make this an engaging book to play with (no matter what your age).

Cons: None, really. We wished there were a few more pages.

Borrow or Buy: Buy. This sturdy board book will let children play at reading and "writing" by mixing parts and pieces to craft their own stories.
