Encourage your child to read aloud to you an exciting passage in a book, an interesting tidbit in the newspaper, or a ... More
Summary: Letters, numbers, shapes, and colors are woven into activities to help preschoolers learn and retain key knowledge as they prepare for kindergarten. Your child will write, draw, color, and match their way through Language Arts and Math lessons. This is a workbook for preschoolers.
Type of Reading: family reading, anytime reading, interactive reading
Recommended Age: 3 to 5
Age of Child: Started reading with 5-year-old child.
Little Kid Reaction: Our preschooler loves this workbook. S/He is always eager to 'do more' and go beyond one lesson at a sitting. This is the first workbook s/he has been excited about doing.
Big Kid Reaction: The workbook, with its pull-out pages, is fabulous. The lessons are organized with a perfect length and the review and ideas for additional activities is very helpful. We like that it gets progressively more challenging.
Pros: The oversized pages give preschoolers plenty of room to practice what they're learning ... and be creative with drawing and coloring.
Cons: Intermingling a typset "a" and a traditional circle/line lowercase A on the same pages where matching or writing is needed caused confusion for our child. We also wish the puppet pals weren't drawn on the book's cover. We'd love to have the characters help with the lessons, but not at the expense of destroying the binding.
Borrow or Buy: Buy! This is a must-have for parents who want to participate in their child's learning, re-inforce school work, or who want to get a sense of how smart their children (already) are.
Educational Themes: This is a workbook for presenting Language Arts and math lessons. The activities are varied and allow children to feel accomplishment often.
