Title: TELL ME AGAIN ABOUT THE NIGHT I WAS BORN

Author: Jamie Lee Curtis

Illustrator: Laura Cornell

Reserve at the Library

Publisher: Joanna Cotler Books, an Imprint of HarperCollins, Publishers, © 1996

Material: paperback

Summary: A little girl, having heard the story and memorized the events, simultaneously asks recites for her parents all the details of how they became a family on the day she was born. A simple story that celebrates love and family.

Type of Reading: any time

Recommended Age: read together: 2 to 6; read yourself: 7 to 9

Interest Level: 2 to 6

Reading Level: 2.1

Age of Child: started reading at 1 year

Little Kid Reaction: Just like the little girl in the book, "I born" is a frequent request

Big Kid Reaction: It's a simple presentation of the ideas of family and adoption. It never gets tiring because it reminds us all over again how special our little one is and how wonderful it is to watch her grow. And the illustrations have humor built in.

Pros: The book is written "toddler speak," and moves quickly. It's a great way to introduce adoption because it focuses on the things important to kids

Cons: None really. If you're looking for a story that exactly matches your adoptive situation (or if you adopted an older child), this may not be the book you're looking for.

Borrow or Buy: This is a nice book…and probably a keeper that will stay with the child forever.

If You Liked This Book, Try: BEGINNINGS, HOW FAMILIES COME TO BE , LET'S TALK ABOUT IT: ADOPTION , THE DAY WE MET YOU

Educational Themes: A nice story about how families come to be.

Notes: Tapestry Books: "This is a unique, exuberant story about adoption and about the importance of a loving family."

Literary Categories: Fiction - picture book, adoption, family
