Little Kid Reaction: Our preschooler immediately understood the story, as Daddy travels for work. S/He stared at the pages, as if looking for Daddy instead of Mommy.
Big Kid Reaction: A very sweet story, with Mom talking directly to the child. The story is soft, soothing and hopeful … all important feelings for a story at bedtime.
Pros: The feelings are universal, whether it's Mom or Dad traveling. Empathy exudes from the page, the story ends the way you want it to, and reminds kids how they are loved.
Cons: None, really. Just don't read this if you're missing your spouse already! It'll bring tears to your eyes.
Borrow or Buy: Buy! Especially if there is a traveling parent in your house. This is a comforting story that will be read a lot!
Educational Themes: This is a good story for showing kids not only what parents do, but what they think about when they're away from home.
