Summary: When the nurse announces that her parents are here, a newborn baby wonders what parents are. On her way from the nursery to the room where her parents wait, the baby sees all kinds of families. Finally, she meets her two moms. This rhyming picture book describes a same-gender family.

Big Kid Reaction: Using the baby's journey from nursery to her parents' arms, the authors have easily and effectively presented all kinds of families. Their message about all of the different families is excellent, but overall the book falls short. The rhymes are weak in several places, and the illustrations (though colorful) are harsh. Everyone is smiling, but you don't get a soft, teddy bear feeling.
Pros: Children with same-gender parents may enjoy their story of how they came to be part of a family.
Cons: Toddlers may not catch some of the gaps in the rhyme, but parents and older children will. The last few illustrations try to capture a child's later life and surprisingly suggest the child's sexual preferences.
Borrow or Buy: Borrow. The message in this book is so important, so it is worth sharing. There are, however, better books out there.
Educational Themes: Use this book to talk about families and the things they share in common, like love.
