Big Kid Reaction: In many ways, Daniel and Seth are modern versions of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. The story is a stand-alone great read. For young teenagers, it is a poignant story about the nature of friendship.
Pros: The story allows teenagers to understand the complexities of friendship. The author’s knowledge of the locale and his camping experience make the story realistic. His understanding of the psyche of young teenage boys makes the “coming-of-age” process of the two friends authentic and believable.

Borrow or Buy: Buy. I would buy this for my personal library and recommend it as a gift for any young reader's book shelf.
Educational Themes: In the hands of a competent facilitator, the book can serve as the focus of group discussion on friendship, growing up, and the complexities in the lives of foster children.
