Summary: It's 1900, and Orville and Wilbur Wright have come to Kitty Hawk to test their theories about flying machines. Young Joshua Morgan is intrigued by their work and becomes an integral part of all that happens. This is a middle reader chapter book offering a fictionalized tale of man's first powered flight.
Type of Reading: family reading, anytime reading
Recommended Age: read together: 7 to 9; read yourself: 8 and 12
Big Kid Reaction: While easy to read, the story lacks a real punch. The story is hard to follow at times, as the author sometimes steps out of character to offer scene-setters and other external data.
Pros: There is enough historical fact to make the information valuable and memorable for kids. They just might be intrigued enough to want to learn more.
Cons: This isn't a page turner…but it could be.
Borrow or Buy: Borrow. It seems expensive given the content. It isn't likely to be a book that you'll return to.
