Little Kid Reaction: S/He was taken with the story, and would routinely "chat" with the baby in the book. This is the first adoption book where s/he requested additional readings.
Big Kid Reaction: This is a sweet, personal story. The illustrations are bright and colorful, and the narrative is neither extensive nor technical.
Pros: The story allows parents to introduce the CONCEPT of adoption in a positive, non-technical, non-specific way. Perfect for preschoolers. The illustrations are not so detailed that the child could be a dark-haired girl of nearly any nationality.
Cons: None, really. There is no father in this story, so it may not fit all adoptive families.
Borrow or Buy: Buy. If you are an adoptive family with a little girl, all of you will treasure the story.
Educational Themes: The book offers a simple presentation for explaining (international) adoption.
