Summary: Seven stories (more than an hour's listening time) comprise this audio book. The stories each have their own theme, including fairy tales, myths, and tall tales. These are folktales told in a classic, animated storytelling style.
Type of Reading: family reading, anytime reading
Recommended Age: read together: 3 to 8; read yourself: 3 to 8
Interest Level: 3 to 8
Age of Child: Shared with a 7-year-old girl.
Little Kid Reaction: Our daughter has listened to these stories for days on end, multiple times a day. She got hooked on this series three years ago and still listens to the first set of folktales.
Big Kid Reaction: These are fun stories to listen to. The storytellers use a lot of voices and the music complements what's going on; it doesn't overpower it. I love the diversity of the collection, too. These are portable, but more importantly, they broaden our horizons.
Pros: Families will enjoy these stories with life lessons that can be taken anywhere.
Cons: None!
Borrow or Buy: Buy! This is a CD of stories you'll listen to for years.
Educational Themes: These are stories that have morals/life lessons. Just like reading a short story, you can pause the CD and talk about the characters and what happened. There is information about each story on the "box" and you can expand your knowledge or look for other, similar stories.
Notes: The publisher/author donated a copy of this book to the Reading Tub. This is an unsolicited donation. Awards: Audie Award for Best Original Work, 2010
