Summary: Seymour's house is filled with his sculptures and paintings. Seymour liked them, but he wasn't sure anyone else would. When his friends discovered his talent, they encouraged him to get a job. Ultimately, he took a job with the Speedy Arts Gallery as the errand snail: sliming envelopes, making deliveries. When Seymour has to deliver a painting to Coco La Roach, the gallery owner, he gets a new perspective on his art. This is a transitional reader about a snail who wants to be an artist.

Little Kid Reaction: A snail in a beret caught our daughter's interest, and she giggled at how Seymour tried to disguise his artwork. She didn't like Mr. Stink Bug and would talk back to the book about how mean he was.
Big Kid Reaction: This is a cute story. The characters are cute and the wordplay is wonderful. With lots of illustrations and plenty of humor, this is a great selection for reluctant and remedial readers.
Pros: Adorable insects and bug humor combine in this sweet story about making your dreams come true.

Borrow or Buy: Borrow, at least. This is a great book for reading with pre-readers and a perfect transitional reader for first and second graders.
Educational Themes: The main themes in the story are perseverance and following your dreams. There are also underlying themes of friendship, hard work, and dealing with disagreeable bugs (I mean people).
