Summary: Frankie and her little sister Violet get to spend some time with their Dad while their Mom rests. Dad cooks for them, takes them to the park, and even has a tea party with them. This is a colorful daddy-daughter story.
Type of Reading: bedtime story, anytime reading, family reading, playtime reading, read aloud book
Recommended Age: read together: 3 to 8; read yourself: 7 to 9
Interest Level: 3 to 8
Age of Child: Read with a 5-year-old girl.
Little Kid Reaction: My daughter picked this book because of the cover: a picture of a dad and two girls. She liked all the silly things the sisters did with their Dad: when the are all in the bathroom brushing their teeth together; when Frankie sits on the couch with her dad; and when dad falls asleep. She laughed because the Dad was so tired from the busy day playing. She thought the story was fun and liked the illustrations.
Big Kid Reaction: This is a beautifully illustrated day of fun for two sweet little girls. It's nice to see a book about a dad and his daughters having fun together. I was surprised she liked it so much. She wanted to read it again quite a few times. I think it was because of the great illustrations.
Pros: Dads and daughters will both enjoy this fun, colorful (and very cute) story about spending the day together.
Cons: None.
Borrow or Buy: Buy. This a cute, sweet story that daughters and dads will treasure.
Educational Themes: This is a story everyone can enjoy. Whether mom or dad is reading it, they can point out that fathers may not do everything the same way mom does, and that sometimes having a different kind of day can be fun.
