"The whole world opened to me when I learned to read."... More
Summary: Tillie, a hen, lives on a farm. The other hens lay their eggs in their nesting boxes but Tillie decides to lay her eggs in other places. Each day she goes out and explores a different place. She lays an egg on the porch, in the kitchen, in the laundry room, even on a truck. The reader has to help find the eggs in the photograph. This photo-illustrated book engages readers by asking them to find Tillie's eggs.

Little Kid Reaction: My daughter picked this book because she liked the name Tillie. She liked that the pictures where of real chickens on a real farm. She was very excited to find the eggs in each picture. She also commented that it was funny to see a hen lay her eggs wherever she wanted.
Big Kid Reaction: This book was educational yet fun. There are several layers to the book. You can enjoy the story and the seek-and-find elements, or you can expand your reading by talking about the different parts of the farm. I was surprised at how much my daughter enjoyed it. She even laughed a few times at the places the hen laid the eggs.
Pros: This book offers great photography in a story for interactive reading.
Cons: None.
Borrow or Buy: Buy. Libraries should have this book available as it shows real hens in their natural living conditions
Educational Themes: This is a book you can enjoy for the story, or you can explore a farm and how a hen lays eggs. Given that Tillie lays eggs in different places, you can also do some counting.
