Summary: As the sun sets, the forest is filled with the sounds of different animals getting ready for night. It is like a song. Bunny, the main character, listens to the owl and snake, among others. He is upset because he can’t make a sound and join them. He tries each of the other sounds, but nothing works. When he gives up in frustration, he runs away and trips on a log. His feet go thump and he realizes he can make a unique sound. So he dances and makes the thumping sound seem like a song. All the animals in the forest hear him and join him in the evening song. This is a bedtime story about being yourself.

Little Kid Reaction: My daughter enjoyed this book a lot. She liked hearing all the animal sounds, and she mimicked them along with the bunny. She was very happy for the bunny when he finally figured out a sound for himself. In fact, she cheered when the bunny finally joined in with the other animals.
Big Kid Reaction: I enjoyed the simple story and uplifting story. I liked that each animal tried to help the bunny. I also liked that in the end he finds his own unique ability.
Pros: This bedtime story wraps a wonderful lesson with beautiful pictures. This is a fun book to read together, and it will give you a chance to have a nice discussion about how each of us has our own talents.

Borrow or Buy: Buy. This is a beautiful book that you'll read a lot at first and then pull off the shelf periodically as your child goes on to elementary school, or when they need a reminder that being different is good, because we can all contribute where we are at.
Educational Themes: Kids will easily connect with Bunny. Themes include: being kind, friendship, encouraging others, keep trying, perseverance, and figuring out our own talents. It's a nice way to show that some things are discovered by accident (when you're not looking), as well as how wonderful things "sound" when we include everyone.
