Little Kid Reaction: This is an interesting, oddly intriguing book about ghosts that anyone from grades 5-12 could enjoy. I found myself strangely fascinated with all the information I was learning about ghosts. The pull outs and tabs are entertaining enough in themselves and they helped create a book that almost anyone could enjoy. The information presented is easy to understand and not overwhelming, as many other books about ghost have been. I don't think I would have liked this book as much if I was not interested in the paranormal. If you have no interesting the strange or abnormal, then this book is probably not for you. But if the paranormal and the strange (maybe even the slightly creepy) interest you; I am confident that you will enjoy this book as much as I did. But take caution, this book just might make you start believing in ghosts, maybe even searching for them.
Big Kid Reaction: To tell the truth, when I first saw Ghost FilesI wasn't impressed with the book: big...black...macabre... Once I opened the book and saw all of the cut-sheets, envelopes, folding notes, diary sheets, etc., it became a piece of art as well as a tongue-in-cheek encyclopaedia of spooky stuff. It is exceptionally well written, superbly illustrated, and gets a 9.5 rating for providing the reader with an educational and enjoyable experience.
Pros: In addition to providing information about ghosts and other paranormal phenomena, the author/illustrator has done a wonderful job using cut-outs and slide-sheets to make this a fun read.
Cons: None.
Borrow or Buy: Borrow, at least. If there is a person in the family who is fascinated with ghosts, doppelgangers, or ghost ships, buy this book. It is a gold mine of information on the paranormal, engagingly illustrated, and an enjoyable learning experience.
Educational Themes: The book is a resource book on all things paranormal. It is engaging, informational and superbly illustrated. Pre-teens and teens will have a great time paging through this resource and sharing stories with their peers.
