Type of Reading: family reading, anytime reading, playtime reading, read aloud book
Recommended Age: read together: 4 to 8; read yourself: 6 to 9
Interest Level: 4 to 8
Age of Child: Read with 4-year-old girl.
Little Kid Reaction: Even though she picked this out at the library - and liked it - my daughter didn't want to read this more than once. She liked the beautiful pictures and the story. She even wanted to jump into the page and go to the ballet herself!
Big Kid Reaction: I enjoyed this book, and think most girls will, too. I was surprised my daughter liked the book because it was all about ballet and I did not think that would interest her. The story was really about getting a great birthday present.
Pros: This is a story about ballet, birthday surprises, and special family time. Three things little girls love.
Cons: None offered.
Borrow or Buy: Borrow, at least. This is a book libraries are likely to have, as it is great for every girl to read.
Educational Themes: In addition to the story about a little girl celebrating her birthday, you also learn about the ballet and going to the theater. The idea that sometimes dreams can come true is written at a kids level (i.e., wishes they might have themselves).
