When she discovers clues about Brownie's history, she has to decide what to do next. If she tells Chauncy, he'll send her away. But is keeping a secret the right thing to do? This is a chapter book that weaves together themes of friendship, integrity, and human nature.

Type of Reading: bedtime story, anytime reading, family reading, playtime reading, read aloud book, advanced reader

Recommended Age: read together: 6 to 10; read yourself: 9 to 12

Little Kid Reaction: Review pending.

Big Kid Reaction: This is a wonderful story. Although there is lots of information about horses, but was not overpowering. As someone who has never been involved with the sport, it was a chance to learn something new. This is a book I would read again.

Pros: The book has a beautiful story, with insights into the horse world. Although it includes some of the not-so-pretty sights, the author presents the information without being graphic or over-the-top.

Cons: None.

Borrow or Buy: Buy! This is a book that will be read over and over ... especially by young horse lovers. It has detailed information parents will love about how much it takes to purchase and care for a horse (but probably not enough to dissuade a passionate horse lover).
