Summary: As Bonnie Bee is going about her work, she meets Benny Butterfly, and a friendship quickly develops. Every day, they meet to play together. One day, when Bonnie is late getting back to the hive, the queen "grounds" her and it is weeks before she can go out again. Benny is very sad and lonely. When Bonnie finally comes to play again, they decide to be together forever. Their children are part butterfly, part bee. This is a rhyming story about patience and love.

Little Kid Reaction: Our daughter enjoyed this book, particularly all of the wordplay with the word "bee." She liked reading the story, but found Uqualla, the quail's name, difficult to pronounce and remember.
Big Kid Reaction: This is a cute stor. The rhyme is light, with a sing-song quality perfect for preschoolers; and a lots of word repetition, which is good for emerging readers. The "bee" phrases not only offer quick life lessons, but they fit with the content on their page. We have read this on and off for a couple of years, so it is nice to pick up again. If we read it day in/day out, we probably would have tired of it by now.
Pros: Cute characters and a sweet story combine in this book kids from toddlers to kindergartners will love.
