Summary: Cecily is a baby harbor seal that was stranded on Mount Desert Island, on the coast of Maine. One morning in January, Nan Lincoln’s husband, Bob, asked her to bring the kids and come down to his boat shop for a surprise. Nan could not imagine what the surprise might be. When they got there, Bob pointed out a newborn harbor seal stranded on the rocks. Nan and the family decide to adopt “Cecily” and, for the next five months, prepare Cecily for her return to the sea. This novel describes the adventures of a Harbor Seal pup orphaned but then rescued by a family.

Big Kid Reaction: This is a wonderful, funny, and memorable story. It educates the reader. The characters and story are authentic.
Pros: The Summer Of Cecily is a heart-warming story. From cover to cover, it is a genuine, delightful, and fun read.

Borrow or Buy: Borrow, at least. This book is an excellent addition to a child’s library. It is a wonderful story that readers from ten to a hundred and ten will enjoy.
Educational Themes: The book is informative, interesting, humorous, and uplifting. The story provides many opportunities to discuss environmental issues, protection of species, and impact of change on habitat.
