Summary: As legend tells it, a young boy and his ice bear stopped by a hut on Christmas Eve to get warm. Little Kid Reaction: S/He stops by the book as its being read, and loves to play out the knockety-knocks on the doors.
Big Kid Reaction: The story is reminiscent of any of the fables we grew up with where trolls were involved…mischief and happy endings. The illustrations are exquisite and make the reading all the more enchanting.
Pros: There is plenty of mischief for the "toddler troll" to imitate, and the story has a happy ending.
Cons: None.
Borrow or Buy: Buy. This is one that will be passed on for generations. It will be both a holiday read AND a coffe-table book.
Educational Themes: The allure of this book is not the intrinsic educational value (i.e., helping others), but the opportunity to talk about legend and folklore.
