Little Kid Reaction: S/He didn’t express a lot of interest in this one.
Big Kid Reaction: A cute story, with a subject every toddler loves: parties. While we have other Spanish books that also offer help in counting and object identification, this was the first one built around a story. Not sure why it wasn’t a hit.
Pros: The illustrations are colorful and the story is fun: collecting special items for a party. The objects go beyond the norm, and its an opportunity to expand vocabulary. You’ll find English and Spanish on each page.
Cons: You need to know more than rudimentary Spanish. While the object associated with the number is identified (dos trompetas), the subsequent page asks ¿Qué Mas? Yet offers no vocabulary.
Borrow or Buy: Borrow. It’s fun, but has its limits in long-term appeal and utility. There are plenty of Spanish books with counting and object identification that will give you variety and teach, too.
