MEET JENNIFER SWANSON

For Jennifer Swanson, life is filled with mystery. Books, that is! So when she decided to write a children's book, it was only logical that she would keep a magnifying glass handy!

Penny and Rio: The Mysterious Backyard Meeting is Jennifer's debut children's picture book. In creating the Penny and Rio series, Jennifer drew on the traits of her two dogs for her canine detectives.

Jennifer actively supports animal rescue efforts, and a portion of the proceeds of her books are donated to G.R.E.A.T. Rescue, a local Jacksonville, FL, pet rescue organization.

In July 2008, the Florida Writer's Association announced that Penny and Rio is finalist in the children's/published category for the Royal Palm Literary Awards (to be announced November 2008). The book is also part of the bibliography for the 2009 Children's Choice Book Awards, sponsored by the Children's Book Council. As part of that competition, more than 12,000 children will read and vote on Penny and Rio: The Mysterious Backyard Meeting.

After graduating from the US Naval Academy (1990), Jennifer was a chemistry teacher at the Naval Academy Prep School. She left the Navy to be a full-time Mom. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in education and working on the next book in the Penny and Rio series. With her kids' help, they have begun outlining books through seven.

Jennifer and her family live near Jacksonville, Florida. She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and the Florida Writer's Association.
