Author Showcase

For Patrick "Packy" Mader, being an author comes from the heart. His is a life of the richness that comes with growing up on a dairy farm in America's Heartland - Minnesota. In his picture books, Patrick writes from his heart: a promise to his daughter; a story of his adoration celebrating his parents' 50 years together; personal history passed down from a grandmother to her grandchildren; and the special memories that can only come from times shared with an older brother.

Although rural in setting, Packy's books speak universal truths about family and the lessons drawn from life experiences; positive messages that elders, parents, and children can share together.

Packy's first book Opa & Oma Together celebrates the life of his parents. It was published in October 2005 and reprinted in 2006. There will be a third printing in 2008. Opa and Oma Together received one of only seven Honorable Mention Awards in the Children's Picture Books category of Writer's Digest's Self-Published Book Awards.

Packy grew up with six brothers and sisters on a dairy farm near St. Bonifacius, Minnesota. He attended college in Bismarck, North Dakota and later graduated with a degree in elementary education from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin.

Today, he lives in Northfield, Minnesota, with his wife Karen, and their children Ellen and Karl. He teaches Sixth grade at Morristown Elementary School, where in 1991, he was Teacher of the Year for the Morristown School District. He also shares his books and writing experiences in presentations throughout the northern Heartland.
