MEET TARA RISON

Just spend an itty-bitty bit of time with Tara Rison, and you'll see just how exciting reading with toddlers and preschoolers can be!

Several years ago, she had the chance to build an in-home preschool. It was perfect: she could use her teaching skills, share her passion for learning and reading, and spend more time with her three children.

When she built her preschool, she wanted to build the curriculum around one of her first loves: reading. She wanted a program that incorporated children's literature with other age-appropriate activities. She also wanted the program to allow for self-directed learning and exploring, and meet the needs of children at different developmental levels.

When she couldn't find what she wanted, she created her own! How does she know it works? Because she could see the kids becoming more interested in learning, and parents noticed the change, too. They could see academic and social progress! Now, the Itty-Bitty Bookworm has expanded and is being used in childcare centers and preschools around the country.

Tara Rison has a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Developmental Psychology. She has taught in a variety of settings, including public schools, private schools, and child development centers. She has served as an assistant director, a teacher mentor, and a curriculum and training specialist. Currently, Tara is continuing to develop The Itty-Bitty Bookworm Curriculum. She also teaches as an adjunct at Trident Technical College and trains child care teachers.

Tara and her husband John reside in Charleston, South Carolina, with their three children Samantha, Gracen, and Weslyn.
