Recommended Age: read together: 9 and Up; read yourself: 11 and up
Interest Level: 9 and Up
Reading Level: 6.2
Young Reader Reaction: Review pending.
Adult Reader Reaction: Well Witched turned quickly from *just* an adventure to an intriguing story about right and wrong, secrets, choices and consequences. It is a fun read, but it has more depth than its premise might suggest. Overall, the story seems to be a cross between a Grimm's fairy tale and an Aesop's fable.
Pros: Mystery and fantasy lovers alike will find themselves totally wrapped up in Josh's, Ryan's and Chelle's adventure.
Cons: None, really.
Borrow or Buy: Borrow. Those who like ghost stories will enjoy this as a bedtime story. It is not a "Halloween book" but it has that spooky quality to it that fits with the season.
Educational Themes: Enjoy this as a great story. Throughout the book there are opportunities to pause and ask questions: what do you think will happen next? What will Ryan/Josh/Chelle do? What would you do?
Notes: The publisher donated a copy of this book knowing that we would consider it for review and provide an independent, unbiased profile. This book will be given to a nonprofit to help readers in need.
