Publisher: CWS Studios, Inc.,

Material: paperback

Summary: Vinny Mazola is looking for a job. Just when he was ready to give up his search, his uncle Guy offered to hire him as an apprentice exterminator. The first customer of the day, a top secret government research lab, had a serious infestation of bugs. Vinny brought along his mail-order Bug-Whacker 3000 to kill the bugs but there was an accident. Vinny shrank. He was not the size of a bug. Alive, but in the dangerous realm of bugs, Vinny doesn’t know how to get back or if can ever return to "normal" size. This is a graphic novel with film quality 3-D graphics.

Type of Reading: family reading, playtime reading, read aloud book

Recommended Age: read together: 8 to 13; read yourself: 9 to 13

Interest Level: 8 to 10

Age of Child: Teen STAR Review Team, Be the Star You Are!™

Young Reader Reaction: This is a graphic novel filled with adventurous 3D graphics. Computer generated characters and scenes create animated 3D texture and depth for the story. One of the highlights is Vinnie’s zealous personality. He often makes humorous comments about other bugs without realizing that he is in danger. One thing that disappointed me was that the story does not end completely, as the story will go on in the next book. Even so, I highly recommend this book for any age since the book is energetically animated and comical.

Adult Reader Reaction: The author calls this genre a graphic novel. It is a comic book by any other description, with a CD-ROM containing additional animation, comic book pages, etc.

Pros: This is an imaginative multi-media product and worthy of consideration for the visual reader.

Cons: The paper stock used for both the cover and the stories will not hold up well with use, especially if the user is an adolescent who is in to re-reading and re-reading the stories.

Borrow or Buy: This is a birthday gift for someone in the visual phase of reading/growing up. The additional media, CD-ROM provides additional entertainment for comic book and/or cartoon buffs.

If You Liked This Book, Try: AN ORNAMENTS' TALE   THE BEE-MAN OF ORN   THE FESTIVAL OF STONES; Autumn and Winter Tales of Tiptoes Lightly

Educational Themes: This is essentially a comic book and as such is focused on providing entertainment rather than educational value. Still, it can spark interesting conversations about "what would happen if ..." or generate ideas for other stories.
