Summary: Days are very busy in Mokiville. Just ask Unique Monique. Join her as she opens her world to you through lyrical verse and music. This is an interactive book/CD set that introduces French, the letter Q-U combination, and telling time.
This is an audio-picture book combination that tells its stories in song.
Type of Reading: playtime reading, interactive reading, read aloud book
Recommended Age: read together: 2 to 8; read yourself: 8 to 10
Interest Level: 2 to 9
Age of Child: Started reading with 2-year-old child.
Young Reader Reaction: Our toddler is now a preschooler and REGULARLY asks for Moki Time. At first s/he was only interested in the CD, now she'll ask for the book so s/he can "read along," too. She is now a rising second grader and she still periodically selects this book.
Adult Reader Reaction: We loved this immediately. It was clear that the material would have great longevity with lots of fun things. After two years we still enjoy the CD.
Pros: The book offers fun and learning. All of the educational elements are artfully woven into the material, but not so deeply embedded that you can't draw them out for specific goals (like telling time).
Cons: Absolutely none.
Borrow or Buy: Buy. This is one that you'll love to have because you child can enjoy it with you or solo. Because of the thematic layering, it will last a long time and have different meanings for your child at different stages.
