Young Reader Reaction: None offered by this reviewer.
Adult Reader Reaction: The pop-ups and other touch-and-feel elements are great. Even the cover has puffy, plasticky balloons to feel. What I liked best about this book, though, is it distributed the really fun things like hammering and camping out between the boys and the girls. No type-casting here.
Pros: The motto "Ready Set Learn" fits this book concept for youngsters perfectly. It's enthusiastic and implies that learning is fun. With the pop-ups (my perennial favorite from childhood!) and simple, kid-arresting primary colors, you can't go wrong.
Borrow or Buy: Buy! This would be an inexpensive little birthday party gift. If you're child's crowd spends a bit more, you could also pick up Who's Your Best Friend? or a Lights Out, Todd sticker book.
