Illustrator: Sonja Lamut

Reserve at the Library

Publisher: Greenwillow,

Material: hard cover

Summary: When Donald wants his grandmother to read one more story before going to bed, she recites This Little Piggy…but not the way you'd expect. She tells him the whole story of what each of the piggy brothers was doing. This is an adaptation and expansion of the traditional infant/toddler game.

Type of Reading: family reading, bedtime story

Recommended Age: read together: 0 to 5; read yourself: 5 to 8

Interest Level: 0 to 4

Age of Child: Started reading with child nearly 2½ years.

Young Reader Reaction: An instant hit. S/He liked seeing that there really are piggys.

Adult Reader Reaction: The rhyming keeps in context of the original, and it's a fun read. It great to have a grandparent storyteller for a change. It seems a little young for the recommended age group (5 to 8).

Pros: It's fun, easy to read and has colorful pictures.

Cons: If you were quickly bored playing This Little Piggy with your child, you won't find much fun in this story.

Borrow or Buy: Borrow. As cute as it is, it's still an adaptation of a rhyme/game you don't need a book for.
