Summary: Everybody is having fun at the picnic on the lake ... except Miles. He has a "wavy" feeling in his stomach. Up came his hot dog! Then, just as he was feeling better, Miles got hit again. This time it was diarrhea. Miles didn't like all this upset tummy. It was okay to miss school, but what about the camping trip with Papa? This picture book helps kids undersatnd (and parents treat) diarrhea
Type of Reading: bedtime story, family reading, playtime reading, read aloud book
Recommended Age: read together: 2 to 7; read yourself: 7 to 9
Interest Level: 2 to 6
Reading Level: 2.8
Age of Child: Read with an 8-year-old girl.
Young Reader Reaction: At first our daughter thought this was going to be too babyish, and she giggled at Miles' descriptions. But as we kept reading (she helped too) she settled into to the story and realize that Miles and his parents had "polite" ways of talking about yucky stuff.
Adult Reader Reaction: What a wonderful resource! I wish I would have had this book a few years earlier, when my now preteen was first fully understanding the symptoms of an upset stomach.
Pros: A comforting story helps young kids who don't understand (or like!) what happens when they get sick. Parents who don't like talking about these things may find the story helpful for explaining it, too.
Borrow or Buy: Buy. This is a very helpful book to have around with toddlers and preschoolers.
Educational Themes: This is a must-have for the home bookshelf when you want to talk about what happens with your body when you get sick ... and what the "cures" are.
Notes: The Reading Tub read a pre-release version of this book. The publicist representing the author donated a copy of this book to the Reading Tub® for review consideration because we provide an independent, unbiased profiles. This book will be given to a nonprofit to help readers in need.
