Summary: This is a set of 14poems written as tongue twisters. They are like nursery rhymes. They are all connected like a play with different acts would be. The illustrations are excellent with easy to read print. This is a book that makes for interactive reading.
Type of Reading: family reading, anytime reading, playtime reading, read aloud book
Recommended Age: read together: 5 to 9; read yourself: 7 to 10
Interest Level: 5 to 9
Age of Child: Read with and by a 6-year-old girl.
Young Reader Reaction: I picked the book for my daughter and we read this several times. She laughed and enjoyed the different poems. She liked the illustrations and how they worked with the poetry. She wanted to go write a poem herself after reading this.
Adult Reader Reaction: I enjoyed the pictures. Some of the poems were silly but I am an adult so I think that made a difference in how they are viewed. I enjoyed watching her laugh and re-read them.
Pros: Silly poems and great illustrations combine for some fun reading and an introduction to poetry.
Borrow or Buy: Buy. This is a must for a library and if someone likes tongue twisters a perfect fun book for them. If I knew a child really like poetry or tongue twisters this would be a good buy.
Educational Themes: Tongue twisters are a natural for getting kids to read aloud. The rhyming also helps with their sight vocabulary. This is a great way to show kids that poetry can be fun and encourage them to try their hand at it.
Notes: A Reading Tub® volunteer submitted this review. She borrowed the book from the local library.
