Publisher: JZK Publishing

Material: paperback

Summary: When a small baby laughs at a frog leaping near a babbling brook, the giggle is felt by those near and far. This is a nice reminder about the ripple effect of positive thinking and actions.

Type of Reading: family reading, playtime reading

Recommended Age: read together: 0 to 4; read yourself: 6 to 8

Age of Child: Read with 2½-year-old child.

Young Reader Reaction: Every time we try to read this, we're asked to close the book. After a dozen attempts, we've given up.

Adult Reader Reaction: The colorful illustrations are engaging and complement the story well. The story's theme is excellent, though hard to read aloud.

Pros: The story is compact and the illustrations emphasize the positive message with bright, rainbow-hued colors.

Cons: Because the book is part prose (literal descriptions) and part poetry (fantasy, rhyming), it flows awkwardly and takes practice to read outloud.

Borrow or Buy: Skip it. For the cost, there are better books out there that teach you that laughter is wonderful.

If You Liked This Book, Try: HUGS AND KISSES   DON'T LAUGH, JOE!

Educational Themes: This book illustrates that it is the small things--and sometimes the most simple-- that can have the greatest impact on our world.

Literary Categories: fiction - picture book, emotions
