Summary: Accompany a little boy for a day at his preschool. From the cheerful hellos as he walks in the door through the activities the class engages in, this is a day of sharing and fun. This picture book introduces children to a school routine and may help with anxiety about new things.
Type of Reading: family reading, anytime reading, playtime reading, read aloud book, learning to read
Recommended Age: read together: 3 to 5; read yourself: 6 to 8
Interest Level: 3 to 6
Age of Child: Read with a 4-year-old child.
Young Reader Reaction: He liked the story, but he didn't think much of the illustrations.
Adult Reader Reaction: This book would be the perfect vehicle for reading before a child's first day of preschool.
Pros: The positive image of what happens at preschool is a big plus.
Cons: Although certainly adequate, I felt the illustrations' color was a little "washed out" and not very eye appealing.
Borrow or Buy: Borrow. This is a special situation book and I doubt it would have much use once a child is into the preschool routine.
Educational Themes: Use this book to talk about preschool and what to expect. Explore the pages to describe the things in a classroom. Start with things kids are familiar with or might have at home. Take some time to talk about your child's feelings, too.
