Publisher: Windward Publishing, an Imprint of Finney Company,

Material: paperback

Summary: Each book in this series follows an animal or pair of animals through having babies (or hatching eggs) and the first year of raising their young. This is a picture book series about animal families.

Type of Reading: bedtime story, family reading, read aloud book

Recommended Age: read together: 3 to 6; read yourself: 6 to 9

Interest Level: 5 to 8

Age of Child: Read with 3½ and 4½ year old children.

Young Reader Reaction: Both kids loved them (although the 3 year old couldn’t always sit still through the end). The three of us have played being timber wolves, river otters, and turtles for days now.

Adult Reader Reaction: I thoroughly enjoyed reading the books to my kids. We read the whole series over several days time, and I was a little surprised that they enjoyed it so much and kept asking for more. But I am getting a little tired of being Mama Timber wolf.

Pros: The series covers a lot of animals such as otters and wolves that get little coverage otherwise. I learned a lot from the books, and the kids loved them.

Cons: None.

Borrow or Buy: Borrow. These are picture books to introduce children to woodland animals.
