Publisher: Mercury Junior,

Material: paperback

Summary: Sit at the bottom of the ocean as this pop-up book surrounds you and the creatures of the sea tell you a little bit about themselves. This is an interactive book that unfolds to create a circle.

Type of Reading: playtime reading, read aloud book, interactive reading

Recommended Age: reead together: 3 to 8; read yourself: 6 to 9

Interest Level: 3 to 6

Age of Child: Started reading with 3½-year-old child.

Young Reader Reaction: Our preschooler loves all things aquatic, so this couldn't have been more perfect for her. She likes to "swim" on the floor with her new ocean friends.

Adult Reader Reaction: What an incredibly creative book! The creatures explain themselves on one side of the "page" and there are facts on the back side. Not sure where the stickers belong, though. They're nice, but you sure don't need them.

Pros: This is interactive learning at its best. The illustrations make the animals "approachable" without being cartoonish. There is plenty to grow on with this book.

Cons: None, really. If you're not a get-on-the-floor-and-play kind of parent, you may not enjoy this book.

Borrow or Buy: Buy! You won't find it at your library, and it is a great way to make reading together fun.
