Author: Chuck Murphy

Reserve at the Library

Publisher: Litle Simon/Simon & Schuster,

Material: board book

Summary: Everything is made of a color. See the things that are purple, green, blue, red, yellow, and more. This is an identification book which catalogs objects by color.

Type of Reading: playtime reading, learning to read

Recommended Age: read together: 0 to 4; read yourself: 3 to 6

Interest Level: 0 to 4

Age of Child: Started reading with child 6 months old.

Young Reader Reaction: Initially, s/he loved the mirror on the front and the shimmer of the objects. Now s/he loves to point to things.

Adult Reader Reaction: A great way to introduce objects and colors. It's also great because you can easily substitute a different language for the colors and things.

Pros: These are everyday objects common in a child's world. Its value as an opportunity to introduce a second language can't be underestimated.

Cons: It's not a story. Age range offered by publisher doesn't seem to meet the content.

Borrow or Buy: This one could easily go either way. If English is the only language in the house, skip it in favor of a different book or borrow it. With you speak another language, it's a good buy.
