Type of Reading: playtime reading, read aloud book
Recommended Age: read together: 4 to 8; read yourself: 9 to 10
Interest Level: 4 to 8
Reading Level: 3.6
Age of Child: Read with 3-year-old child.
Young Reader Reaction: My child was curious and asked a lot of questions. He liked the last page that teaches more about sea turtles via interesting facts.
Adult Reader Reaction: This is a great example of non-fiction that is in a story format. Photos were taken throughout the turtle’s time with the rescue team, and it gives an authenticity to the story. I learned about sea turtles, too.
Pros: The book is interesting, with nice photos and easy to understand text.
Cons: Three times it explains that she didn’t like a certain treatment, but was too sick to do anything about it. So many repetitions of these comments made her seem extra pitiful.
