COMMUNITY-ORIENTED READING PROGRAMS
IN2BOOKS This is an interactive program for second- through fifth-graders. By matching students with adult pen pals, in2books motivates students to discuss important subjects through letters about thought-provoking books.
READING ROCKETS This site, sponsored by WETA (PBS, Northern Virginia) offers information about teaching kids to read and helping young readers who are struggling. You can even send an Ecard to show kids how proud you are of their reading.

KidsBookshelf This is a Mom-run Web site whose purpose is to encourage parents and caregivers to help children discover the enjoyment of reading. To encourage creativity and imagination in children through reading, writing, and drawing.
KIDSCANDOIT Kids can stop by this site to read a story, write a story, or work hidden puzzles. There's an open-ended essay contest for kids to describe a real-life situation where they had to make a difficult decision.
Book Adventure This site, sponsored by Sylvan Learning, Inc., is a FREE reading motivation program for children in grades K-8. Kids create their own book lists from more than 6,000 recommended titles, take multiple choice quizzes on the books they've read offline, and earn points and prizes for their literary successes.
